Services and facilities at the Humanities Library

Spaces

Study spaces for all

The new Humanities Library has around 330 seats for general use. 

These spaces include: 

  • two large study areas with formal seating
  • five small bookable group study/consultation rooms (for up to four people)
  • a larger group study room (eight seats)
  • a Multimedia Room containing music and film collections

Dedicated graduate study spaces

The library also has 80 seats in dedicated graduate study spaces. These include:

  • two 32-seater graduate study rooms (with a mix of open tables and individual screened study desks)
  • two bookable study/meeting/seminar rooms (eight seats)

Teaching room

The library includes a Rare Materials Teaching Room, for teaching using items from the Humanities Library’s special collections. Items from these collections can be called from the offsite store to the library for consultation and teaching. Find out more about special collections of the Humanities Library.

Audio-visual viewing facilities

The Multimedia Room on the first floor houses the library’s CD, Blu-ray, and DVD collections.

Film viewing facilities for physical formats (including VHS) are available in two nearby four-seat rooms. A few video recordings remain in VHS format only and are stored offsite.

Portable DVD players are available to borrow from the staff desk. The Multimedia Room also has equipment for listening to CDs.

There are also facilities for playing LPs and audio cassettes. An electric piano (with headphones) is on the first floor.
