Admission

 

  • Oxford University staff and students have full access to the four Bodleian Health Care Libraries and their resources, and can borrow items.

 

 

  • Non-HCL Bodleian Reader card holders can use the library within staffed hours during University of Oxford vacations (dates of term), but may not borrow items. Find out more about how to apply for a Bodleian Reader card.  
  • Other readers can use the libraries according to the service level agreement between the library and the employing organization.

General information

  • The Bodleian Libraries Regulations and Rules of Conduct apply in the Bodleian Health Care Libraries.
  • The Cairns Library is in the Academic Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital (directions to the hospital). Follow signs to the Academic Centre, situated between the main entrance and the Women's Centre. Walk up one flight of stairs or take the lift and turn right. Follow the corridor. The Cairns Library is at the end before the corridor turns to the left.  

  • The library has two main reading rooms.  The first contains shelving, cubicles and open plan seating and workstations. The second is a smaller library containing shelving and some desk space.

  • There is a small breakout space near the main reception desk in the lobby area in front of the library entrance.

  • You are welcome to bring your own devices to use in our libraries. Power sockets are provided.
  • Wi-Fi is available throughout the four library sites, as well as Bodleian Libraries and NHS PCs.
