Imaging Services
Imaging Services will be closed from Tuesday 24 December 2024 – Wednesday 1 January 2025. We will respond to orders and requests received during this period as soon as is practicable on our return. Best wishes for the festive period from the team.
The Imaging Services department is the primary provider of digital images of the Bodleian Libraries' special collections and works within the Weston Library.
All the income generated by the department is used to support the work we do and to help support the library’s work in curating, conserving and making available its archives.

About Imaging Services
We create the high-resolution images you see on Digital Bodleian and Bodleian Images, as well as offer high quality digitisation services and advanced imaging techniques, including specialist imaging and 3D imaging, for academic, commercial and personal use.
The team includes highly skilled photographers, imaging technicians, a digitisation officer, researchers, administration and management. We have a passion for the collections we capture and making the Bodleian Libraries' collections available for all, through digitisation. We work closely with curators, Conservation, the Stack Team, Reader Services and BDLSS (Digital Bodleian) to achieve this.
The first photographic studio at the Bodleian Libraries was established in 1891 and sited in what is now the Upper Reading Room of the Old Bodleian, at the west end. When the New Bodleian Library (now the Weston Library) was opened in 1946, the Photographic Studio moved to the top floor where it remained until the refurbishment of the building in 2011 to 2014. The Photographic Studio was operated by Oxford University Press (OUP) until 1975, when it was then transferred to the administration of the Bodleian Libraries.
Since the Weston Library's opening in 2015, we have been working in the heart of the collection, right next door to the Bodleian’s historic and extensive collection of manuscripts, rare books, maps and printed ephemera.
