Academics at other universities applying for a Bodleian Reader card

These instructions are for non-University of Oxford academics applying for or renewing a Bodleian Reader card. The application process is always the same, whether you are applying for the first time or renewing your Bodleian Reader card.

If you are a University of Oxford academic or an affiliated academic visitor, you automatically get access to the Bodleian Libraries with your University card.

These instructions are for academics at UK universities. The University of Oxford is not currently a member of the SCONUL Access Scheme. However, for the duration of their contracts (maximum 4 years at a time), we offer free, reference-only access throughout the year to academic staff members at UK public universities and institutions that are members of SCONUL. The same rules apply for students whose universities receive public funding but are not members of the SCONUL Access Scheme.
