There are various sources of support and guidance within the Bodleian Libraries for readers working with research data. This may be useful for research work when it is in its earliest stages, during the data collection and analysis phase, or when it is nearing completion.
The help available includes introductions to the many resources available within the Bodleian Libraries, advice on developing research questions, one-to-one consultations, specialist training, advice on data management and assistance in completing project proposals.
Data Librarian
Do you need specialised advice on working with research data or finding research databases? Contact the Data Librarian, John Southall (john.southall@bodleian.ox.ac.uk), to arrange a consultation. Advice on data management and preservation is also available.
Institutional signature
Contact the Data Librarian if a data supplier such as Eurostat or the UK Data Service is requesting an institutional signature as part of an application.
Subject librarians
The Bodleian Libraries have a network of specialist subject librarians who are happy to discuss your research in one-to-one consultations or via email. They can be especially helpful in developing research ideas and suggesting useful databases or related resources.
Expertise in business and finance data is provided by the Business Librarian, Hal Kirkwood (hal.kirkwood@sbs.ox.ac.uk).

Subject guides
Subjects have online guides which highlight subject resources and advice. These include data and other information resources such as journal articles and grey literature.
Research Data Oxford
The central University's website for research data management, Research Data Oxford, provides in-depth guidance on the organisation, management and preservation of data.
IT Services
Data Services help to secure and make best use of researchers' data by facilitating data sharing and backup. You can also send requests for advice to do with any aspect of data management may also be directed there and are dealt with by representatives from the Bodleian Libraries, IT Services and Research Services.
